About this place
At Sakamaki, the easy comfort of a coffee shop meets unfussy European home cooking. The dishes have a welcoming, homemade feel, while the dining room’s unusual collection of sumo-related objects gives the place its own character. There is a sure-handed European touch to the food and baking, too.
For a meal, options include hamburger steak and pork sauté, each available in Western- or Japanese-style preparations, as well as the simply satisfying German country-style open omelette. Lunch sets come with soup and salad, and the rice is accompanied by rikishi miso, a much-praised touch that brings Japanese familiarity alongside the Western-style main dishes. There are also daily specials and swordfish steak served with a light sauce, offering a choice of substantial dishes to suit the day.
The selection of European traditional cakes makes a meal’s end—or a stop for coffee—especially appealing. Alongside the classic German-style cheesecake are fruit-baked Obstkuchen, Kopenhagener and cinnamon cake, among other traditional bakes not often found in a typical café. Enjoy them in the shop with carefully brewed hot coffee or tea, or take cakes away by the piece for a small everyday treat.
